Schitt's Creek: Not So Schitty

A couple of days ago, I finished binge-watching Schitt's Creek because I have no life. The show made me burst out with laughter within' the first episode. Oh my God, this show is incredible! The cast, the writing, the setting, everything is so fun! I thought I would give my overall opinions on each member of the Rose family since they are the main characters of the television show.

Eugene Levy's performance as Johnny Rose provides a great leader to the fictional Rose family. I appreciate how Levy is over seventy and yet, still is in the loop about current day humor and trends. His one liners displayed in the show really show how relatable his character is since his family around him are complete nutcases. Also, I loved how his work relationship with Stevie grows as the series progresses. Johnny's character arc is interesting in that at first he was embarrassed to live in Schitt's Creek, but over time he begins to love and accept his home town and begins to want to do generous deeds for it.

Catherine O'Hara as Moira Rose gives in my opinion what should be an Emmy-nominated performance. O'Hara is a comedic legend and it shows in this and in that one episode stint she did in Curb You Enthusiasm. Moira's character is completely delusional, but at the same time she is actually aware of her delusion at certain points throughout the season. The one episode that stands out to me about her character is the episode where she joins the JazzaGals and she thinks she will be the standout, but she tries to leave before her audition due to many people being a lot better than her. Also, he fake accent she puts on always had me pissing my pants.

Annie Murphy as Alexis Rose is the stereotypical rich, "I'm better than you" girl, but she is so charming when she does it. At first, I was annoyed with her character, but that is just who Alexis is. Over the series, Alexis starts to find out who she is, and she actually starts to give a crap about her future. I would say out of all the Roses', Alexis is my least favorite, but I still really like her character, and I enjoy how oblivious it is to be "poor" in the beginning of the series.

Dan Levy as David Rose is definitely the standout character of the series. I will tell you right now that David Rose is in my list of top ten favorite television characters. I honestly probably would not watch the series if David was not on it. His snarky attitude and sharp wit had me laughing by far the most by any other character on the show. From the second he started yelling at his sister because he wanted the bed she claimed, I was on the ground dying laughing. Dan Levy also revealed in an interview that most of his lines are improve. Pure genius! I also really love how his family just accepts him for who he is rather than being awkward with his dating life. The show really show an astounding depiction of love and acceptance between him and his family.

If you are looking for something to binge-watch, I would recommend Schitt's Creek. It's on Netflix, so I am sure you all can access it! It has been so underappreciated for the longest time, but now I believe people are starting to hop on the bandwagon. It is definitely one of the best comedies I have seen in a long time, so I think you all should give the show a chance! I don't think you will regret it!
